Mission Statement

The MBYC junior program was established in 1962 and over the years has produced many talented sailors. Our mission is to:

  • Introduce young people to the sport of sailing and encourage their progress
  • Foster a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among our members
  • Provide quality coaching to our novice and advanced sailors alike
  • Guide our racers to the highest level of excellence in competition at the national and international levels
  • Teach our sailors to respect and follow the yacht racing rules
  • Encourage each sailor to set and achieve his or her own personal goals
  • Inspire each sailor to represent the Mission Bay Yacht Club with honor and dignity
  • Have fun!

Mission Bay Yacht Club currently has more then twenty-five Naples sabots, eight 420s (four brand new), and fifteen CFJs (six brand new) along with a collection of lasers. These boats are available to all MBYC junior sailors who treat the boats with respect and give notice several days prior to the Junior Director.

MBYC Junior Parent Handbook

Junior sailors and parents new and seasoned to the MBYC Junior Program should be familiar with the Parent Handbook.  The Handbook is a useful guide that describes who we are, our wonderfully unique boats, what the expectation of being part of the MBYC Program and the Code of Conduct.  The handbook will go a long way in answering many of the questions you may have.

Membership Criteria

Junior Member

  • Between the ages of 12 and 21
  • Pay all applicable dues and fees
  • Must re-apply each January for no additional fee
  • No guest privileges

Sandpiper Member

  • Between the ages of 6 and 12
  • Pay all applicable dues and fees
  • Must re-apply each January for no additional fee
  • No guest privileges

Fees and Dues

Initiation Fees   

  • Junior Member Full payment at time of application: $50.00
  • Sandpiper Member Full payment at time of application: $50.00   

Dues

  • Junior Member Monthly Payment: $17.00
  • Sandpiper Member Monthly Payment: $11.75
